Hi, I saw the poster at the side of the road, near the Pockley turning, and it got my interest going. I am a keen cyclist and interested in local history so this project is quite close to my heart. I would be keen to offer help if I an able to do so. Regards Simon Mountain We, Philip and Patricia Dale wish to offer our support for the development of the old railway route into a cycle way. This is a very sensible way of developing an already existing path. Good luck. What a great idea, surely not only to enable locals to cycle to work in safety, but to bring in more tourism to sustain the local economy, (I live in Kirby and work in Helmsley but will not even consider cycling to work on the local overloaded roads). Best wishes - Dave Lea. I am all in favour of sustainable cycle ways because the main roads are unpleasant for the less experienced cyclist. I am prepared to help with any work if necessary - felling shrubs and trees. Jonty Hakney Bradford. I used to cycle this route when I was younger and remember it being an excellent ride. Being completely traffic-free it had no horrible junctions to worry about and was a beautiful ride. It would be great to make a start. Sam Belsom It's a great idea - I cycled along it from Beadlam to Helmsley, and back, as a teenager and would welcome the development of such a cycle trail to keep us off the busy A170. Jonny Kershaw “I live in Pockley and teach at Ryedale School. I would love to cycle to school, particularly as my car engine never heats up on my journey to work. However, I don’t not feel safe cycling on the A170, so all the best with the proposed cycletrail – you have my full support” Mrs R. Goodwin “The closure of some railway lines was criminal. Destroying the right of way so that you couldn’t even walk or cycle on them was doubly so. Certainly I support what you are trying to do. There is no doubt that Patrick Howat the author of “Railways of Ryedale” would support it too. He was a keen cyclist, but I’m afraid he died in 2005 about a year after the Ryedale book was published. Best wishes for your project.” Martin Bairstow – Publisher of “Railways of Ryedale” and “Railways around Whitby” Hello there, Have just looked at your website and its great!
